Buchanan Hartley is acting as executive architect for a traditionally inspired new build house for a private client near Hemel Hempstead, to an original design by Julian Bicknell & Associates. This 10,000 sq ft dwelling replaces a previous house on the elevated four acre site and employs a classical language for both building and landscape design. The external facing materials will be brick and stone under a natural slated roof and external joinery will be of timber. Internally the rooms are arranged off a central curved processional stair from basement gymnasium and cinema to attic bedrooms. Ground floor and first floor contain principal reception and bedroom suites respectively. Gardens will be laid out in the English picturesque style and incorporate a sunken patio and swimming pool with pavilion. Completion is programmed for early summer 2019.
